Here is a sampling of the recent meters that have been paired with an Aquacue Barnacle.

The Aquacue Barnacle instruments a standard water meter into a smart meter in minutes to help with leak detection, water conservation and reducing water costs.  Additionally, the Barnacle’s economical size allows it to fit in small or shallow meter pits (like the meter pit in the photo to the left). The sensors are connected to the device at the end of a single wire, making it very easy to position the Barnacle in small spaces.

The accuracy of the Barnacle is somewhat dependent on the make/model of the meter to which it is attached. Generally we expect 99.5%. The meter in this photo was a 1.5″ Badger meter and the Barnacle was tracking the meter to 99.8% accuracy. When using the Barnacle with meters that already have a pulse output, the Barnacle can be directly connected to the meter and its accuracy will be 100%.

Today, the Aquacue Barnacle completed the strenuous FCC and PTCRB certification process, an exceptionally difficult testing series that is mandatory for any wireless device that uses the cellular network. So, what’s all the fuss about? It’s all about being free and clear. Users of the Barnacle can now be assured that there will be no interference between it and any other wireless device being used within its proximity. In addition, the Barnacle can now be used anywhere on the planet where there is GSM cellular network.
